Our story
Maternal Journal is an award-winning movement, created by mother, artist, midwife & birth activist, Laura Godfrey-Isaacs, with mother and communications specialist, Samantha McGowan.
Working as a midwife in London, Laura realised there was a gap in support for women finding pregnancy, birth and building families difficult. She set up Maternal Journal to help with this. Inspired by taking one of Laura’s workshops, Sam joined the team to help introduce others to the powerful benefits of journaling.
A pilot project launched in 2017 in partnership with King’s College London and has since grown to include more than 40 groups worldwide, and continues to support women journaling at home too.
Everything we do is led by our advisory board made up of mothers, academics, artists and psychologists and supported by our Founding Mothers group – women who took part in the very first Maternal Journal workshops.
